Architecture builds our cities and shapes our urban lives. It also tells stories from the past, about the lives and cultures of those who existed centuries ago, and how their lives evolved into our modern societies.

Different languages, cultures, and technology affect architectural designs. Over the last century, we have witnessed architects whose visualization and designs shape the basis of modern architecture. Some were even successful in creating their own unique signature designs, which made their work quite remarkable.

Have you ever seen a building and immediately guessed its architect, then stood up for a minute to marvel at the iconic shapes and smooth curves? The beauty of architecture lies in its versatile nature, which leaves us with so many tastes and favorited-lists. Here’s a list of our favorite modern designs:

Louvre Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi - Jean Nouvel

Let your journey start in Abu Dhabi, UAE’s vibrant capital. A visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi will be the best inspirational-kick. This carefully designed museum represents the vibrant, dynamic and multicultural nature of the Arab World, especially the UAE. Designed by the international architect Jean Nouvel, the museum is a well-studied combination of light and shade, whose photos are viral for their unique and glamorous concept. The design was inspired by the palm trees of Abu Dhabi, through which light passes and its shadow is formed. The building is world famous and is visited by art, design, and architecture appreciators from around the globe.

Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Abu Dhabi - Zaha Hadid

Since the early 80’s, the UAE has been booming and moving towards modernized cities and architectural icons. The move didn’t only include residential, commercial and multi-use buildings, but expanded to bridges and city monuments. After touring within the Lourve Abu Dhabi, let your driver cross the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, designed by the RIBA Global Medal awardee, architect Zaha Hadid. An epic time for the drive would be at sunset, to witness the beautiful lights highlighting the bridge. The iconic bridge links Abu Dhabi island and the Gulf South Shore. It is reported to be the most complex bridge ever built, with its symmetrical curved steel arches.

Dancing House, Prague - Frank Gehry & Vlado Milunic

After grasping some of Abu Dhabi’s finest monuments, charter a private jet to the marvelously beautiful Czech capital. Prague is well-known for its major Art Nouveau and Gothic architectural styles, mainly witnessed through The Old Town in the city. However, Prague is more than just Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and Old Town Square; it is also home to the famous Dancing House by famous architects Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunic. The building is a must-see for its unique and magnificent shape and curvy designs.

Grande Arche de la Défense, Paris - Johan Otton von Spreckelsen

Your next spot should be the French haven, Paris. If you’re a modernity enthusiast, head to visit La Grande Arche de la Défense. This iconic monument represents a late-20th century version of the Arc de Triomphe. However, this Arche represents hope and openness to the future world, rather than military victories. Once you spot the monument and walk closer to it, it is a great opportunity to climb up its stairs, photograph some shots of La Défense district and gaze into the horizon to witness famous Parisian buildings from a distance.
